Who is Omega Shenron?

For all of its faults, Dragon Ball GT actually had a lot of cool ideas and concepts. One of the most popular things to come out of Dragon Ball was the final Saga which saw the karmic birth of Omega Shenron. But what’s that I hear, you ask, who is Omega Shenron? Well…

Omega Shenron is an Eternal Dragon born from Goku and friends using the Dragon Balls too many times. He is extremely powerful/evil and the final main antagonist of Dragon Ball GT.

How was Omega Shenron created?

Every time the Dragon Balls were used to fulfil wishes negative energy was stored within the Dragon Balls themselves. The greater the wish, the more negative energy.

The wish in Dragon Ball Z that brought back everyone killed by Frieza on Namek was the one that gave birth to Syn Shenron. But it wasn’t until years later, after constant use, that the Dragon Balls would crack, releasing Syn Shenron.

But after getting his butt kicked by Goku, Syn Shenron decided to absorb all of the Dragon Balls to which gave him a crazy transformation with a major power boost. And this transformation created Omega Shenron.

Omega Shenron’s appearance.

Omega Shenron first came on our screens in 1997 (2004 in America) during the episode titled The One-Star Dragon Ball. This was during the Shadow Dragon Saga, which was the last main Saga of Dragon Ball GT.

Omega Shenron vs Syn Shenron – Which is correct?

Syn Shenron is the name of the Shadow Dragon before he absorbed the Dragon Balls to become Omega Shenron. However, a lot of fans just refer to both characters as Omega Shenron.

But in the official Dragon Ball fandom, both characters fall under the single page of Syn Shenron. So if you want to be completely accurate, you need to use both names depending on whether the dude ate all the Dragon Balls or not.

Is Shenron Omega Shenron?

No, Shenron is not Omega Shenron. Shenron is the Dragon that is summoned when the Dragon Balls are gathered, and Omega Shenron is a shadow Dragon that was created after the wish to bring back everyone killed on Namek. So Shenron and Omega Shenron are 2 separate beings and could theoretically meet each other.

Who’d win, Omega Shenron vs Beerus?

Beerus. Without question, Beerus would be able to beat Omega Shenron all day long. If we ignore the God of Destruction power that Beerus has that would allow him to Hakai him out of existence, Beerus is just too fast and powerful for Omega Shenron.

Omega Shenron wouldn’t be able to lay a glove on Beerus when he uses his ultra instinct. So we think the smart money would be on Beerus, but sadly this is probably a fight that will never happen.

How strong is Omega Shenron?

Omega Shenron appeared right at the end of Dragon Ball GT, which itself took place after Dragon Ball Z. And Omega Shenron was only defeated by a Super Saiyan 4 Goku, which is the most powerful version of Goku we’d seen up to that point.

So yeah, Omega Shenron is extremely powerful and is a lot stronger than Frieza, Cell, and Majin Buu combined. In terms of power, he is stronger than a Super Saiyan 3 but a little bit weaker than a Super Saiyan 4.

There has been a lot of talk about where Super Saiyan 4 would fit in with the new God Saiyan transformations, but sadly there is no way of knowing as they come from different series. However, I’d personally put Super Saiyan 4 as stronger than Super Saiyan God but not as strong as Super Saiyan Blue, but that’s just my headcanon.

Is Omega Shenron a demon?

No, Omega Shenron is not a demon. Omega Shenron is a shadow Dragon, although he does share a similar vibe to the demons we see in Dragon Ball, and could be Dabura’s long lost cousin.

Is Omega Shenron canon?

No, Omega Shenron is not actually canon, despite featuring in many Dragon Ball Z video games. This is because he wasn’t part of the original Dragon Ball Manga and only featured in Dragon Ball GT, which is not part of the official canon. We wrote an article all about GT and it’s non canon status you can read here.
